[Financial News] The combined market capitalization of the South Korean stock market, including the KOSPI Composite Index, KOSDAQ, and KONEX, surpassed 6,000 trillion won for the first time on the 27th.
\r\nAccording to Korea Exchange (KRX), the total market capitalization of the South Korean stock market stood at 6,031.9678 trillion won as of 10 a.m. that day.
\r\nBy market, the KOSPI Composite Index accounted for 5,354.3616 trillion won, while KOSDAQ and KONEX stood at 673.9679 trillion won and 3.6383 trillion won, respectively.
\r\nThis is the first time the South Korean stock market's market capitalization has exceeded 6,000 trillion won.
\r\nEarlier, the South Korean stock market first topped 5,000 trillion won on Feb. 3. In just a little over two months, it has grown by nearly 1,000 trillion won.
\r\nThe KOSPI had seen heightened volatility in February amid the war between the United States of America (U.S.) and Iran. But expectations for an end to the conflict and upward revisions to earnings forecasts for semiconductor companies have recently pushed both KOSPI and KOSDAQ to record highs, ushering in the era of a 6,000-trillion-won market cap.
\r\nKOSPI's gains, following last year's 76% surge, have also led the Group of Twenty (G20) this year with a 56% rise. It has widened the gap sharply with second-place Taiwan at 34.4% and third-place Republic of Türkiye at 27.9%.
\r\nDuring the session, KOSPI broke above the 6,600 level, moving into range of the long-awaited 7,000 mark. KOSDAQ also climbed to as high as 1,224, setting a new peak. It was the first time KOSDAQ had risen above 1,200 since Aug. 4, 2000, during the dot-com bubble.
