\r\n[The Financial News] A security agent who jumped onto the stage to protect President Donald Trump during a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner held on the 25th local time at the Hilton Hotels in Washington, D.C., is drawing attention.
After the welcome remarks ended, several loud bangs believed to be gunshots were heard. President Donald Trump, seated at a table on the stage, turned his head to the left and watched what was happening. Soon after, attendees stood up and the venue fell into confusion.
At that moment, one security agent in a black suit immediately jumped onto the stage and blocked Donald Trump from view. He appeared to be trying to shield the president as a human barrier in preparation for gunfire.
He stayed close to the table and kept watch by turning his head until armed agents arrived and the president was safely evacuated.
The scene quickly went viral on SNS. Local users reacted by saying, "This is something most people would be too scared to do. His upright posture is impressive," "What Trump's security agent did is truly admirable," and "He risked his life for the president."
Donald Trump also expressed his gratitude on Truth Social shortly after the incident, saying, "The Secret Service and law enforcement agencies did an excellent job. They acted quickly and bravely." Todd Blanche, the Acting Minister of Justice, also praised them, saying, "Law enforcement agencies did exactly what they were supposed to do."
However, separate from the agent's courage, questions are also being raised over the inadequate security provided for Donald Trump.
According to The New York Times (NYT), no metal detectors were installed at the hotel entrance where the event was held, and guests were reportedly able to enter without additional screening as long as they showed an invitation.
Metal detectors were installed only near the banquet hall deep inside the building, and because the suspect was a hotel guest, he was reportedly able to approach the event area without passing through the main entrance or lobby.
Acting Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency Carroll said, "We will review CCTV footage from the entire hotel to determine how the gun entered the hotel and how the suspect got this far."
