[The Financial News] Two KFTC employees who uncovered a 320 billion won sugar cartel received a special bonus of 15 million won.
The KFTC said on the 26th that it had awarded special performance bonuses totaling 32 million won to 14 employees for outstanding achievements on the 22nd. In particular, Senior Officer Jeong and Assistant Director Woo Byung-hoon, who uncovered the sugar cartel involving CJ CheilJedang, Samyang Corporation and Daehan Sugar, received bonuses of 10 million won and 5 million won, respectively.
The KFTC said Jeong and Woo discovered that sugar prices distributed nationwide were rising to similar levels at the same time while monitoring the market, which led to the investigation. It added that the case was handled by Oh Haeng-rok, Director-General of the Corporate Merger and Transaction Review Bureau, who had previously led the probe into a large-scale sugar cartel in 2007, 19 years ago, when he was head of the Manufacturing Cartel Investigation Division.
The KFTC said, "Following the president's directive to ensure bold rewards for civil servants who deliver outstanding results, we introduced the special performance bonus system this year." It added, "We plan to provide bonuses to employees who achieve exceptional results, such as advancing policies that the public can directly feel or uncovering serious unfair practices."
