[Financial News] Donald Trump said on the 24th local time that he would closely watch the situation, noting that "Iran will put forward a proposal" as the possibility of resuming peace talks with Iran has emerged.
The United States is currently demanding that Iran completely abandon nuclear weapons and open the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for oil shipments.
In this regard, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt officially announced that Jared Kushner, the president's eldest son-in-law, and Middle East envoy Steven Charles Witkoff will depart for Pakistan, where talks are expected to begin on the morning of the 25th. Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister and a party to the talks, has already arrived in Pakistan.
A reporter for Axios also cited multiple sources on X, formerly Twitter, and said that "a meeting between U.S. and Iranian delegations could be held on the 27th," adding weight to the prospect of renewed talks.
However, Iranian state media drew a line, saying that "there are no plans to meet with U.S. officials during Minister Araghchi's visit to Pakistan." It remains to be seen whether peace talks between the two countries will actually resume as early as this weekend.
