Iran's state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported on the 24th (local time) that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will not meet with the United States this time.
Araghchi arrived at Islamabad airport that day as he began visits to Pakistan, Oman and Russia.
IRIB said Araghchi arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Tuesday evening and added, "Contrary to some speculation, no meeting with the U.S. side is scheduled during this trip."
IRIB added, "Instead, Pakistan is serving as a bridge to convey Iran's concerns," and said, "This is an extension of the message delivered when Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan Asim Munir visited Tehran last week."
That differs from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt's statement that the Iranian side had requested "face-to-face talks" in Islamabad that day.
Vice President JD Vance, who led the first round of talks, also chose to remain in the United States, which may indicate that the discussions are not direct negotiations with Iran, contrary to Leavitt's announcement.
President Donald John Trump said Iran wants to negotiate and that he would wait to see whether an agreement can be reached.
According to Al Jazeera, Trump said U.S. officials are "negotiating with the people who are in charge [of Iran] right now" and that Iran will present a proposal that accepts U.S. demands.
