[Financial News] The Samsung Electronics labor union has announced plans to hold a rally outside the home of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on the first day of its general strike.
According to police and others on the 24th, the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) plans to hold a rally starting around 1 p.m. on the 21st of next month outside Chairman Lee's home in Hannam-dong.
The union had previously announced a general strike from May 21 to June 7, calling for performance bonuses equal to 15% of operating profit.
The union also plans to formally announce the scale of the strike and its key activities during the strike period on the first day of the walkout.
The rally notice was filed for about 50 people. A union official said, "In reality, about 550 people are expected to take part in the form of a press conference, and we then plan to move on to occupying the workplace."
Earlier, about 40,000 Samsung Electronics union members gathered at the Pyeongtaek site at around 1 p.m. the previous day to hold a struggle resolution rally and call for the institutionalization of the abolition of the bonus cap.
