\r[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 24th that, regarding whether to apply the long-term holding special deduction to one-home owners who do not live in the property, as pointed out by President Lee Jae Myung, "the issue is being discussed at the government level, but nothing has been decided."
\rA Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House that day.
\rPresident Lee, who is on a state visit to Vietnam, earlier posted on X, formerly Twitter, that "while income tax is paid on money earned through hard work, it is only natural to pay capital gains tax on gains from the sale of a home." He added, "To protect one-home ownership, tax relief on capital gains for the period of actual residence may be necessary. But cutting capital gains tax simply because someone held a home as an investment, without even living in it, especially in the case of an expensive home, is not a housing protection policy. It is a 'policy that encourages housing speculation.'"
\rIn response, the Cheong Wa Dae official explained, "He was saying that one-home owners should be treated more favorably than multi-home owners." The official added, "He was speaking from a principled standpoint, emphasizing that even among one-home owners, investment purposes and actual residence must be distinguished."
