The sentencing will take place on the 29th at 3 p. m.
Former President Yoon was sentenced to five years in prison in the first trial on charges including obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) by mobilizing the Presidential Security Service, and infringing upon the right to deliberation by proceeding with a meeting without the attendance of some cabinet members prior to the declaration of a state of emergency. The Special Prosecutor Team for Insurrection and Foreign Exchange Crimes (Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok) has requested the court to sentence him to ten years in prison in the appeal trial.
The sentencing of former President Yoon is scheduled to be broadcast live, just as it was in the first trial.
The Act on Special Cases Concerning Criminal Procedures for Crimes of Insurrection, Foreign Exchange Crimes, and Rebellion (Act on the Tribunal for Insurrection Crimes) stipulates that, barring special circumstances, the presiding judge shall permit broadcasting upon the request of the prosecutor or the defendant.
The Special Prosecutor Team submitted a written opinion on the 22nd requesting live broadcasting of the sentencing hearing.
