\r\n[The Financial News] The first opinion poll has been released since the Democratic Party and the People Power Party finalized their candidates for Seoul mayor. Democratic Party candidate Jung Won-oh led People Power Party candidate and incumbent Mayor Oh Se-hoon by 10 percentage points.
According to a poll commissioned by CBS and conducted by KSOI, released on the 24th, Jung received 45.6% support in a hypothetical Seoul mayoral matchup, while Oh trailed at 35.4%. The gap of 10.2 percentage points is outside the margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
Earlier, when both parties were still holding primaries, some hypothetical matchups between Jung and Oh showed gaps of up to 20 percentage points. As the general election approaches, support bases on both sides appear to be consolidating, narrowing the gap somewhat.
In addition, 7% chose another candidate besides Jung and Oh, 7% said they had no preferred candidate, and 5% said they were unsure. That means roughly 19% of respondents are considered undecided. With a little more than a month left, there is still considerable room for voter sentiment to shift.
The cited survey was conducted on the 22nd and 23rd through a wireless phone ARS method among 1,001 people, with a response rate of 5.1%. For more details, refer to the website of the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission.
