[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung, who is on a state visit to Vietnam, said on the 24th that media coverage of the Daejang-dong development scandal, which won a Korea Newspaper Award three years ago, was "not fact-finding, but a massive act of manipulation."
In a post on X, Lee said, "The Korea Newspaper Award judging committee said the reason for the award was that the coverage of the Daejang-dong issue continuously uncovered powerful facts," and made the remark.
Lee claimed, "By creating 'that person,' Lee Jae Myung, who was not even mentioned in the Daejang-dong transcript, the report caused the Democratic Party's presidential candidate to lose the last election and changed the course of South Korea's history."
He added, "As a result, the country has regressed, the people have suffered tremendous pain, and the consequences are still continuing."
He went on to say, "Even now, it would be appropriate to revoke and return the award, apologize, and correct the report," adding, "There must never again be a case where history is changed through election manipulation by state institutions and the media."
Earlier, the Korean Association of Newspapers selected the Dong-A Ilbo Legal Team's report, "Coverage of the Daejang-dong Development and Illegal Election Funding Receipt Allegations," as the winner in the news reporting category of the 2023 Korea Newspaper Award. At the time, the judging committee praised the report, saying it had "continuously uncovered powerful facts in coverage of the Daejang-dong issue."
