[The Financial News] A progressive-leaning YouTuber who was accused of stalking People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk has been issued a restraining order by the court.
According to police and legal sources on the 24th, Judge Hwang Jung-yeon of the Seoul Southern District Court, Criminal Division 1, Single Judge, issued a provisional no-contact order on the 20th against two hosts of the YouTube channel Jeongchi Hanjan, including a man identified only by his surname, Choi, under the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.
The court ordered them to stop the stalking behavior and not come within 100 meters of the victim or his residence until July 19.
The measure came after Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station filed the request on the 17th and the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office petitioned the court.
Earlier, Jang filed a complaint with Yeongdeungpo Police Station on the 24th of last month, accusing the Jeongchi Hanjan hosts of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes and other charges.
Police later delivered a warning letter to Jeongchi Hanjan, stating that if someone repeatedly and without just cause engages in stalking behavior toward another person, a cohabitant or family member, causing anxiety or fear, they will be severely punished under the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.
Since last year, Jeongchi Hanjan has followed Jang’s official schedules and asked questions such as, "When will you dispose of your six houses?"
Meanwhile, the National Assembly Access Control Deliberation Committee decided in January to impose a temporary restriction on Jeongchi Hanjan’s access to the National Assembly. The channel was placed under review after allegedly making insulting remarks to People Power Party lawmaker Seo Ji-young inside the National Assembly in December last year.
