[Financial News] As SK hynix posted a record operating profit of more than 37 trillion won in the first quarter of this year, raising expectations for a large bonus payout early next year, it was belatedly revealed that an SK hynix employee became the first salaried worker to be listed in the Chungbuk Honor Society.
According to the Chungbuk Community Chest of Korea and others on the 23rd, a man in his 40s identified as A, an employee at the SK hynix Cheongju Campus, visited the charity in January and donated 100 million won.
A, who became the 99th member of the Chungbuk Honor Society, was the first salaried worker to be included in the group. The Honor Society is a group of major donors who have given or pledged at least 100 million won within five years.
At the time, A donated the 100 million won anonymously and asked the charity not to disclose the donation publicly.
However, after persistent persuasion from the charity, which said the act could serve as a model of good deeds, the story was eventually made public.
A told Yonhap News Agency, "I was just doing my part," adding, "At first, I felt embarrassed because I thought the company name might draw too much attention."
A, who said he has made regular donations to several volunteer organizations for more than 10 years, said, "Just as I was motivated by news of other colleagues' donations, I thought my story might lead someone else to donate as well." He added, "I plan to continue donating to help advance medical technology."
A charity official said, "I hope this case helps create an atmosphere where people think, 'I can do that too.'"
