[Financial News] Chung Byung-ha, the special envoy of the foreign minister currently in Iran, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and discussed the safety of 26 Korean ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz and 40 Korean nationals remaining in Iran.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea on the 23rd, Chung asked Araghchi during the meeting to continue paying close attention to the safety of more than 40 Korean citizens in Iran, as well as the 26 Korean ships and their crews. Araghchi said he would take note of Seoul's request regarding the ships. The Iranian side reportedly explained that the Strait of Hormuz is a matter involving the United States. It appears that resolving the situation will not be easy until the war with the U.S. is settled.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea said, "We once again stressed the need to guarantee free navigation in the strait and asked the Iranian side for special cooperation to ensure the swift and safe passage of all vessels, including ours."
