[Financial News, New York City = Lee Byung-chul]White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt once again made clear the key conditions in ceasefire talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). She also said that U.S. President Donald John Trump will decide when the war ends.
In an interview with Fox News on the 22nd local time, Leavitt disclosed two conditions that Iran must accept. The first is a ban on possessing nuclear weapons. In other words, Iran must eliminate any nuclear capability that could threaten the United States of America (U.S.) and its allies.
The second is giving up highly enriched uranium. The move is seen as reflecting the view that real denuclearization is impossible unless the stockpiled nuclear material is removed.
Leavitt stressed that "the United States is maintaining control of the current situation." She also said that President Donald John Trump "holds all the leverage" in the negotiations, reaffirming that Washington has the upper hand. She added that the ceasefire extension was given a degree of flexibility while waiting for Iran to present a unified response to the president's clear proposal.
The United States is using its military superiority to manage the pace of negotiations. At the same time, it is pressuring Iran to accept the terms while waiting for its internal decision-making to settle.
Leavitt also emphasized that "President Trump will ultimately decide the timetable, and he will do so when he believes it best serves the interests of the United States and the American people."
