[The Financial News] A man shocked commuters after appearing on the New York City Subway wearing a transparent jacket filled with live cockroaches.
According to foreign media outlets including The Free Press Journal on the 23rd, a video showing a man wearing a cockroach jacket on the New York City Subway has recently spread rapidly across social networking service (SNS) platforms and other online communities.
The video shows a man standing still in a clear vinyl jacket packed with dozens of live cockroaches. Commuters watching the scene looked visibly shocked, while the man remained unfazed by the attention around him.
After the video was posted, online users reacted with comments such as, "Putting a living creature inside a sealed plastic bag is inhumane," "It was a scene that made me stop in my tracks," "He may be the last person you’d want to get close to in New York City," and "Would it be okay to spray him with insecticide?"
Meanwhile, the cockroach jacket worn by the man was made by the streetwear brand Uncommon NY and is said to be part of a marketing campaign.
The brand explained, "This coat is a creation inspired by a remark from a journalist who compared the NBA's New York Knicks to cockroaches, saying they are hard to get rid of."
On the product detail page, the brand wrote, "This year, we decided to turn that remark into a symbol of glory, because nothing is more persistent than a damn cockroach."
