\r\n[The Financial News]  Broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon, 55, was reported to have helped rescue a local woman who lost consciousness and collapsed at the scene of Thailand's largest water festival, Songkran.
On the 22nd, Hong Seok-cheon shared a video on his Instagram account showing footage taken during his visit to the Bangkok Songkran Festival and relayed the news. The video shows him helping rescue a woman who had lost consciousness and was being carried on a man's back. At the time, the group had been trying to move her to a safe place but was struggling to get through the large crowd. Hong Seok-cheon then supported her arms to keep her from falling and cleared a path through the crowd.
Hong Seok-cheon explained, "The Bangkok Songkran Festival is a New Year's water festival, but accidents happen every year. This year, news has also reported 191 deaths and hundreds of injuries." He added, "There are many traffic accidents, but many young people also lose their precious lives because of drugs and excessive drinking. I was invited as a festival DJ and took part in this year's Songkran as well. While enjoying another festival with younger friends, I helped move a Thai woman who had collapsed from drinking and hypothermia to a safe place, and I was relieved that it did not lead to a major accident."
He also urged caution, saying, "If you keep dancing, shouting, and getting drenched in water for a long time while intoxicated, shock or hypothermia can suddenly set in, so please be especially careful." He added, "There will be various festivals this summer, and I hope everyone enjoys them safely above all else." He then said, "Youth is beautiful, but let's act responsibly," and added, "I wonder if that Thai woman knows I am Hong Seok-cheon."
Meanwhile, the Songkran Festival is a large-scale water festival held across Thailand every April. It was inscribed on UNESCO's list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage last year. Although the festival enjoys global recognition, fatalities and injuries caused by drinking and traffic accidents continue to occur every year.
