S. national YouTuber whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael and who has drawn criticism for a series of bizarre stunts, was sentenced to prison in the first trial. Both the prosecution and the defense have appealed the ruling.
According to the legal community on the 22nd, Somali filed an appeal with the Seoul Western District Court on the 20th. The prosecution also filed an appeal the following day, on the 21st, along with a written statement of reasons, challenging the lower court's decision. The case will now be reviewed again at the appellate level.
Earlier, the Criminal Single-Judge Division 1 of the Seoul Western District Court, presided over by Judge Park Jiwon, sentenced Somali to six months in prison and 20 days of detention on the 15th for charges including obstruction of business, violations of the Minor Offenses Act, and violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, including the distribution of fake videos. The court also ordered a five-year ban on employment at institutions related to children, teenagers, and people with disabilities. The court said, "All of the defendant's charges are found guilty," adding, "He repeatedly committed offenses to make money through YouTube broadcasts and turned them into content, showing a serious disregard for the rule of law.
" The court also said there was a risk of flight and ordered Somali into custody in the courtroom. Somali is accused of causing a disturbance while livestreaming at Lotte World in Songpa District, Seoul, in September 2024 and obstructing the operation of rides.
In October of the same year, he allegedly played music and danced inside a convenience store in Mapo District, Seoul, disrupting business, and poured cup noodle broth on an employee who tried to stop him while hurling insults. He was also charged with repeatedly causing disturbances in public places, including approaching passersby while carrying a bag of foul-smelling fish on the street and playing music and doing pull-ups on buses and subways.
The charges also include producing and distributing obscene videos that digitally combined the faces of men and women.
