\r\n[The Financial News] A new poll found that Donald Trump's approval rating on governing has fallen into the low 30% range, while support for his economic policies has dropped even further.
According to a poll released on the 21st local time by The Associated Press (AP) and the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago (NORC), based on surveys of 2,596 U.S. adults conducted from the 16th to the 20th, Trump's approval rating stood at 33%, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
That was down 5 percentage points from 38% in the previous survey by the same organizations last month, and it marked the lowest level since Trump launched his second administration in January last year. AP noted that the decline could create problems for the Republican Party (GOP), which is trying to hold on to its majorities in both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
In particular, Trump's approval rating for economic policy fell more sharply than his overall rating, dropping from 38% last month to 30% this month.
His approval rating on the Iran issue also slipped slightly, to 32% from 35% last month. The result appears to reflect the lack of progress in ceasefire and peace talks with Iran.
Support for his response to the cost of living was even lower, with just 23% of respondents saying they approved of Trump. That suggests growing frustration among Americans over the issue. Even among Republicans, Trump's own base, approval on the cost-of-living issue was only 51%.
The only area where Trump saw a slight increase was immigration policy, where his approval rating rose to 40% from 38% last month.
