[Financial News] Kim Keon Hee failed to appear as a witness in the trial of former Korea Elementary School Taekwondo Association president Ahn Hae-uk, who was indicted for allegedly raising the so-called "Julie allegation."
The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Agreement Division 34, presided over by Judge Sung-Jin Han, held a hearing on the case against Ahn, who is charged with violating the Public Official Election Act and other offenses, on the 21st.
Kim's side had been designated as a witness that day, but she did not appear after submitting a written explanation for her absence. However, the court ruled that the reason given for her nonappearance was not justified.
Under the Criminal Procedure Act of the Republic of Korea, a court may impose a fine of up to 5 million won if a witness who has received a summons fails to appear without a valid reason.
The court plans to summon Kim as a witness again on the 20th of next month.
Ahn was indicted for saying ahead of the 2022 South Korean presidential election that he had seen Kim working at an entertainment bar in the past. Jeong Cheon-su, the former head of the YouTube channel Open Mind TV, which reported Ahn's remarks in interview form, is also on trial.
Prosecutors sent them to trial, saying they had publicly spread false information with the aim of helping then-candidate Yoon Suk Yeol lose the election.
