[Financial News] South Korea has secured a leading role in international standardization in the field of Physical AI, which is emerging as a core technology for next-generation system communications, by establishing a new advisory group. The group was created at an international standards meeting under Korean leadership, and a domestic expert was appointed as co-convener.
\r\nAccording to the National Radio Research Agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 20th, the AI Advisory Group (AG-AI) proposed by South Korea to address Physical AI was established at the 49th International Standardization Meeting on Inter-System Communication and Information Exchange (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 6), held in Seoul from the 13th to the 17th. South Korea was also appointed, together with China, as co-convener of the advisory group, the role responsible for operating a specific working group or advisory group at the international standards meeting. The Korean convener will be Seong-Ho Jeong, a professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS).
The newly established advisory group will set the standardization direction for AI-based communication technologies within SC 6 and lead key AI standardization agendas, including analysis of links between technologies and standardization gaps.
South Korea also proposed standardization tasks reflecting domestic industry demand, including a wireless charging communication interface protocol for continuous operation of autonomous mobile devices and a network protocol for controlling sensors and actuators in wearable suits. It also proposed new preliminary tasks in promising future technology areas, such as a drone intersection collision-avoidance protocol and an ultra-low-power data transmission system for brain signal transfer.
In addition, as Shin-Gak Kang of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) was appointed convener of the Network, Transmission and Future Network Working Group (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 6/WG 7), South Korea is further solidifying its leadership in international standardization in the network interface sector.
Chang-rim Jung, head of the National Radio Research Agency, said, "We will continue to actively support domestic industry, academia and research innovations so they can be adopted as international standards, helping strengthen the global competitiveness of Korean companies and create new markets."
