On the 20th, Rodong Sinmun, the WPK's newspaper, reported that "the Missile General Bureau of the DPRK conducted a test launch on April 19 to evaluate the combat power of the improved ground-to-ground tactical ballistic missile Hwasong-11D."
Kim, who visited the site with Kim Ju Ae, observed the test along with Kim Jong-sik, a member of the Party Central Military Commission, Jang Chang-ha, the head of the Missile General Bureau, and corps commanders.
North Korea said the test was aimed at confirming the characteristics and power of the cluster warhead and fragmentation mine warhead. It claimed that five tactical ballistic missiles were fired at an island target 136 kilometers away, striking an area of 12.5 to 13 hectares.
North Korea has recently emphasized its ability to operate tactical nuclear weapons and the precision and diversification of short-range strike systems.
