Lee met with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the day and exchanged views on the future of Korea-India relations and ways to expand cooperation between the two countries, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Relations and Communications Kyuyoun Lee said in a written briefing. After the meeting, Lee attended a dinner meeting with members of the Korean community.
The meeting followed the customary protocol for a state visit to India, under which a visiting foreign leader meets the foreign minister before holding summit talks.
Lee said he was pleased to make a state visit to India as the president of the Republic of Korea for the first time in eight years. He stressed that the visit would help strengthen the Korea-India Special Strategic Partnership in all areas and expand mutually beneficial strategic cooperation.
He also noted that, given the potential for cooperation between the two countries, there is still ample room to expand bilateral trade and the number of Korean companies operating in India. He added that more effort is needed to turn that potential into reality. Lee also expressed gratitude to Jaishankar for his efforts in preparing the visit.
Jaishankar conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lee. Kyuyoun Lee said Jaishankar also noted that, amid prolonged global instability including the war in the Middle East, India hopes to use the crisis as an opportunity to further solidify Korea-India ties, and that the Indian government will actively support more Korean companies entering the Indian market. He added that India would do its utmost to ensure the success of the Korea-India summit scheduled for the following day and would actively cooperate in implementing follow-up measures.
