As the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) blocked the Strait of Hormuz again on the 18th local time, it has decided to give priority to ships that pay tolls.
CNN reported this, citing a senior Iranian official.
The official said, "Given that the number of ships allowed to pass is limited, Iran has decided to respond more quickly to the new transit procedures in the Strait of Hormuz and give priority to ships that pay for safety services."
According to the official, ships that do not pay the toll will be 'delayed.'
Iran blocked the strait again just one day after reopening it, saying the U.S. was "repeatedly breaking trust" in the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
The senior Iranian official explained that the priority system is one of several efforts by Iran to manage maritime traffic "in line with the new order that governs this strait."
