\r\nU.S. President Donald Trump will take part in a marathon Bible reading event. His participation comes as he faces backlash from Christian supporters over controversies he has stirred, drawing attention.
According to The New York Times (NYT) on the 17th local time, the event, titled "America Reads the Bible," will be held in Washington, D.C. from the 19th to the 25th. The weeklong reading is being organized by the conservative Christian group Christians Engaged.
The organizers said Trump will participate in the event and recorded his reading segment in the Oval Office on the 14th.
Trump read a passage from 2 Chronicles 7 in The Old Testament, which says, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
For decades, the verse has been interpreted as a promise with political implications for the United States and has been used in praise, prayer, and sermons.
The Bible reading event begins with Genesis 1 on the morning of the 19th and ends with the final chapter of the Book of Revelation on the evening of the 25th. Trump’s reading will air between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the 21st, U.S. Eastern Time.
Most participants will read live at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., but Trump and some other senior figures pre-recorded their segments. Senior officials from the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Antonio Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, also took part.
\r\nMeanwhile, Trump posted an image of himself on the 12th wearing white clothes and a red cape, placing his hand on the forehead of someone who appeared to be ill. After the post drew fierce criticism as blasphemous, he deleted it about 12 hours later. He also clashed with Pope Leo XIV, who has criticized the U.S. war against Iran.
