\r\n[The Financial News] The Joint Government Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes, which is investigating Park Wang-yeol, the so-called 'drug king,' questioned his nephew and accomplice known as 'White Whale' in the Republic of the Philippines.
According to investigative authorities on the 18th, the Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes sent nine people, including one prosecutor and investigators, to Manila on the 12th to interview and question A, identified as 'White Whale,' who is being held in a correctional facility.
A, Park Wang-yeol's nephew, is an accomplice in Park's drug crimes and is known to have handled drug smuggling and been involved in domestic distribution since 2024.
A number of other accomplices and gang members who supplied Park Wang-yeol with drugs and money are also being held in foreigner detention facilities and correctional facilities in the Republic of the Philippines. The Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes is understood to have also questioned them in person, in addition to A.
After returning home on the same day, the investigation team plans to use the local interviews and collected evidence to strengthen the case against Park Wang-yeol.
As Park Wang-yeol's detention period expires on the 22nd, the Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes plans to wrap up the investigation and indict him while he remains in custody.
Park Wang-yeol was provisionally extradited on the 25th of last month on charges of distributing large quantities of drugs in South Korea while serving time in a Philippine prison for killing three Koreans in the Republic of the Philippines. He is currently being held at Suwon Detention Center.
The amount Park Wang-yeol is believed to have smuggled or tried to distribute was found to include 12.7 kilograms of philopon and a total of 17.7 kilograms of narcotics, worth about 6.3 billion won, from November 2019 to August 2024. In addition, after analyzing bank accounts and other records, investigators determined that he had already sold drugs and received 6.8 billion won in proceeds. That brings the estimated drug crime proceeds tied to him to about 13.1 billion won.
