[The Financial News] People who owned land in the Daejang-dong area of Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, have lost a 3 billion won lawsuit they filed against attorney Nam Wook, accountant Jeong Young-hak and others, claiming they suffered losses in the land acquisition process.
The Civil Agreement Division 27 of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Kyung-jin, ruled against the plaintiffs on the 17th in a suit seeking payment of an agreed amount filed by the Pyeongsan Clan Association against attorney Nam, accountant Jeong and Cheonhwa Dongin Nos. 4 and 5, which they own.
In 2009, the Pyeongsan Clan Association, which owned land in the Daejang-dong area, signed a land sale contract with C7, the private developer for the Daejang-dong project. Nam and Jeong joined C7 that same year and were reportedly in charge of acquiring land from landowners.
However, then-Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung accepted Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH)'s proposal for public development, and the independent private development plan ultimately collapsed. As C7 withdrew from the project, the landowners suffered losses.
Based on the compensation terms in the land sale contract it signed with C7, the Pyeongsan Clan Association filed the lawsuit in December 2021, arguing that Nam, Jeong and others involved in the land acquisition work should compensate for the damages it suffered.
