[The Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung stressed the sense of responsibility in the public sector at a work briefing for public and related institutions on the 17th, saying, "The fate of the nation changes depending on how public officials act."
In his opening remarks at the "Work Briefing for Public Institutions and Related Agencies" held that afternoon at the Yeongbingwan State Guest House in Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee said, "Today we are hearing reports from research institutes and from smaller public institutions that have not previously had the opportunity to report." He added, "There are so many related institutions that it seems it will take quite a bit of time just to go through their names."
President Lee stated, "The essential role of us public officials is to carry out the tasks entrusted to us by the people," noting, "All the authority, budgets, and duties we hold come from the people." He went on, "We exercise that authority, perform those duties, and use those budgets for the people and the nation, and on their behalf."
He repeatedly underscored the role and responsibility of public officials. President Lee said, "The higher the position and the greater the role, the larger the impact will be, but even those in the lowest-ranking posts are no different in that they are carrying out the affairs of the state." He continued, "Whether people live or die, whether our society becomes one of better lives and hope or one of despair, ultimately rests in the hands of public officials."
He went on, "The President will bear the greatest responsibility, but all of you here, and even the frontline public officials under your command, have a decisive impact on the fate of the nation and the lives of its people." He appealed to them, saying, "With that mindset, I ask you to do your utmost."
President Lee added, "I hope that by the time we hold the next work briefing, the situation will be somewhat better than it is now," calling on each institution to thoroughly grasp its tasks and improve performance.
