[The Financial News] A fishing hook has been found in the stomach of the wolf "Neukgu," which was captured ten days after escaping from Daejeon O-World.
According to the Daejeon Metropolitan City Government on the 17th, an X-ray examination at the Daejeon O-World animal hospital revealed a fishing hook measuring 2.6 centimeters lodged in Neukgu's stomach.
O-World staff explained that the hook was embedded very deep, so instead of removing it immediately, they first brought Neukgu out of anesthesia, calmed the animal, and focused on restoring its strength. They then requested support from a secondary animal hospital, where the hook in Neukgu's stomach was removed by endoscopy rather than surgery.

Blood tests conducted along with the X-ray showed no particular abnormalities. Although Neukgu has lost some weight, it is reported that there are no major health problems. O-World officials are also monitoring for infectious diseases and ticks, considering the possibility that Neukgu may have come into contact with other wild animals while outside.
Search authorities believe Neukgu likely foraged for food in the wild, as leaves, fish bones, and other debris were found along with the fishing hook in the animal's stomach.
Meanwhile, the Daejeon Metropolitan City Government has launched a comprehensive audit of O-World in connection with the incident on the 8th, when Neukgu escaped by digging under a barbed-wire fence. Following the audit, the city plans to consider administrative measures and disciplinary action against those responsible. The timing of O-World's reopening is expected to be decided later.
Jung Kuk-young, president of Daejeon Urban Corporation, which manages O-World, issued a formal apology, saying, "I apologize for causing concern among citizens," and pledged, "We will thoroughly review our animal management system to ensure that something like this never happens again."
