According to Financial News, Jang Dong-hyeok, leader of the People Power Party (PPP), has extended his schedule in Washington, D.C., by two days. He delayed his return at the request of the United States Department of State (State Department). Jang had originally been scheduled to return on the 17th.
Park Jun-tae, chief secretary to the party leader, told reporters at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on the 17th, "Jang was initially supposed to return late this afternoon, but his schedule has been delayed, and he will now return two days later," adding, "We have confirmed that the schedule was extended after the State Department contacted us."
Media reports have suggested that Jang may meet U.S. Vice President James David Vance or Secretary of State Marco Antonio Rubio. Regarding this, Park said, "As far as I know, those meetings have not yet been finalized."
Jang is expected to carry out the extended two-day schedule together with Supreme Council member Kim Min-su. Lawmakers Kim Dai-sik, Kim Jang-gyeom, and Cho Jung-hun are reported to have already departed for home.
On the outcome of Jang’s U.S. trip, Park explained, "The U.S. side has made many requests for confidentiality, taking various circumstances into account," and added, "Once the lawmakers who visited the U.S. return, there will likely be an opportunity to explain the results in detail."
