\r\n[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea has recruited attorney Jeon Tae-jin as its candidate for the National Assembly by-elections that will be held alongside the June 3 local elections. Jeon is the party’s first high-profile recruitment pick for this round of by-elections.
The Democratic Party of Korea announced at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea that it had officially brought Jeon on board. He is expected to be strategically nominated in the Ulsan Nam-gap constituency, which is the home district of Kim Sang-wook, the party’s candidate for Mayor of Ulsan.
Born in 1971 in Ulsan Metropolitan City, Jeon spent his elementary, middle, and high school years entirely in Ulsan, making him a native of Ulsan Metropolitan City.
After graduating from high school, he entered Seoul National University (SNU) and passed the 43rd bar exam, beginning his career as an attorney. Over the next three decades, he continued practicing law while serving as an adviser to the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, various government ministries, and public institutions. He is widely regarded as a figure with strong capabilities in administration and policy, as well as in the judiciary.
Party leader Jung Chung-rae said at the recruitment ceremony, "Right now, Ulsan needs someone who can break the old framework of regionalism, bring about a generational shift to younger leadership, and create a new wind in Ulsan, a blue wave." He added, "Kim Sang-wook, our candidate for Mayor of Ulsan, is young and fresh. Kim Tae-seon, head of the Ulsan City Party Committee, is also a young worker. Jeon will be joining that wave."
Jeon responded in kind. He said, "What Ulsan needs now is not politicians who stoke outdated regional animosities, but capable public servants who can work with the government to craft policies that benefit Ulsan and secure active support for the city."
Kim, who attended the recruitment ceremony with Jeon, welcomed him, saying, "We need a comrade who will help change and renew Ulsan Metropolitan City." He continued, "Today (the 17th), meeting such a reliable comrade and joining hands with him gives me strength and even more confidence that we can do this."
The Democratic Party of Korea has effectively finalized its key candidates who will run in Ulsan Metropolitan City in this election cycle. Kim has already been confirmed as the party’s candidate for Mayor of Ulsan through an internal primary, and under the principle of strategic nominations, the leadership has effectively decided to nominate Jeon in the Ulsan Nam-gap constituency.
Accordingly, the party leadership plans to head straight to Ulsan Metropolitan City on the 18th to immediately hit the campaign trail in support of these candidates.
