Perfect Crown is set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy version of Korea and follows the romance of Seong Hee-joo (IU), a chaebol heiress who is legally a commoner, and Grand Prince Ian (Byeon Woo-seok), the king's second son who has only his title and honor.
Hee-joo is capable and beautiful, but as an illegitimate daughter of a conglomerate family, she has always fought prejudice and discrimination. Pushed by her family to marry, she rebels and decides to choose her own groom. At the end of episode 1, she directly proposes marriage to Grand Prince Ian (Byeon Woo-seok). Even after he turns her down, she persistently pursues him, and at the end of episode 2 she hears the words, "Prepare to become the grand prince's wife," and breaks into a joyful smile.
With its proactive female lead, star-studded cast, lush visuals steeped in Korean aesthetics, and fast-paced storytelling, the drama has drawn viewers in. In episodes 3 and 4, which are being released this week, it is expected to depict the deepening relationship between Hee-joo and Grand Prince Ian following the announcement of their contract marriage.
Meanwhile, the boy group BoyNextDoor has joined the Perfect Crown OST lineup, further fueling the romance narrative.
