KOSPI Composite Index Tops 6,200 as Institutional and Foreign Buying Continues [Afternoon Market Report]

[The Financial News] The KOSPI Composite Index has climbed above the 6,200 level, as institutional investors continue net purchases of more than 1.2 trillion won and foreign investors have also turned to net buying.
As of 3:00 p.m. on the 16th, the KOSPI Composite Index was trading at 6,208.32, up 116.93 points (1.92%) from the previous close. The index started the day at 6,149.49, a gain of 0.95% from the prior session, and has been extending its advance.
In the Stock Market Division, institutional investors and foreign investors are net buyers of 1.2812 trillion won and 58.9 billion won, respectively. Individual investors, by contrast, are net sellers of 1.5959 trillion won.
By sector, paper and wood (up 3.94%), IT services (up 3.68%), entertainment and culture (up 3.38%), transportation equipment and parts (up 2.96%), machinery and equipment (up 2.78%), and electricity and gas (up 2.72%) are showing strong gains. Telecommunications (down 1.67%), construction (down 0.43%), and non-metallic minerals (down 0.04%) are declining.
Most large-cap stocks by market capitalization are rising. Samsung Electronics is up 2.84%, SK hynix 1.32%, Hyundai Motor Company 4.72%, LG Energy Solution 1.72%, SK Square 3.01%, and Hanwha Aerospace 0.53%, all posting gains.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ market is trading at 1,161.58, up 9.15 points (0.79%) from the previous session. The KOSDAQ market opened at 1,163.00, up 0.92% from the prior close.
On the KOSDAQ market, individual investors alone are net buyers of 333.4 billion won. Foreign investors and institutions are net sellers of 242.1 billion won and 41.0 billion won, respectively.
