[Financial News] The launch of Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone, the "Xiaomi 17" series model "Xiaomi 17 Max," is drawing near. The Xiaomi 17 Max is expected to combine the series’ hallmark professional-grade camera performance with a massive 8,000 milliampere-hour (mAh) battery.
According to Chinese IT outlet Gizmochina on the 16th, a device with the model number 2605EPN8EC, believed to be the Xiaomi 17 Max, recently passed China Wireless SRRC Certification. Any device with wireless communication functions must obtain State Radio Regulation of China (SRRC) approval before being released in China, and this is generally seen as a sign that launch is imminent. The Xiaomi 17 Max is widely expected to debut in May.
The standout feature of the Xiaomi 17 Max is its powerful battery. It is expected to use the largest battery in the series, with a capacity of 8,000 mAh, and to support ultra-fast charging, including 100-watt (W) wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
In terms of design, the phone is expected to feature a large 6.9-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display with slim bezels.
For the mobile application processor (AP), often called the "brain of the smartphone," the device will use Qualcomm’s latest chipset, the "Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5." It is expected to offer up to 16 gigabytes (GB) of Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) RAM and up to 1 terabyte (TB) of Universal Flash Storage 4.1 (UFS 4.1) storage.
The camera setup is expected to center on a 200-megapixel main camera, complemented by a 50-megapixel telephoto lens and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. However, it reportedly will not include the rear display found on the "Xiaomi 17 Pro" and "Xiaomi 17 Pro Max."
Attention is also turning to whether the Xiaomi 17 Max will be released in South Korea. Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra from the Xiaomi 17 series in the Korean market in March. In particular, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, developed in collaboration with German camera brand Leica, features a 200-megapixel telephoto camera and a Leica-certified Apochromatic (APO) lens. APO refers to an optical design that minimizes color fringing caused when different wavelengths of light fail to converge at the same focal point as they pass through the lens.
