[Financial News] Backed by this year’s semiconductor supercycle, SK hynix is expected to post record-high profits and pay out performance bonuses in the hundreds of millions of won per employee, stirring public interest. Against this backdrop, a post by an employee who identified himself as a production-line worker at SK hynix has gone viral.
"Ranked No. 2 in my technical high school and got in, never even went to a cram school"... post on Blind
The post in question was written on the 14th by an SK hynix production worker, referred to as Mr. A, on the workplace community "Blind." Blind is an online community where membership requires verification of one’s employer. Mr. A uploaded a post titled, "I’m a production worker at SK hynix and my life is sweet now."
Mr. A began by saying, "Back in middle school I wasn’t a good student, so I was told not to even dream of an academic-track high school and to just get a job early." He went on, "I went to a local technical high school, comfortably ranked second in the entire school, and got in here. I never went to any cram schools, so there was nothing to spend money on," as he described how he joined SK hynix.
Assessing his own path to employment, Mr. A wrote, "There’s no other route with this kind of cost-effectiveness." He concluded the post by saying, "In life, metacognition seems to be what really matters." Metacognition refers to the ability to recognize what you know and what you do not know; his remark suggests that by quickly grasping his own situation and making the best possible choice, he joined SK hynix and is now enjoying the resulting rewards.
If this year’s operating profit hits 250 trillion won, average bonus projected at 700 million won
The backdrop to Mr. A’s post is the recent buzz over SK hynix’s earnings outlook and the corresponding estimates for performance bonuses. Domestic securities firms forecast that, powered by the semiconductor supercycle, SK hynix could achieve a record operating profit of 250 trillion won this year. If that happens, analysts project that each employee would receive an average performance bonus of about 700 million won.
On the same day, Macquarie Securities went even further, projecting SK hynix’s operating profit for next year at 447 trillion won, nearly double that figure. In that scenario, if the performance bonus pool of about 44 trillion won were simply divided by the company’s roughly 34,500 employees, each person would receive an average of 1.29 billion won. SK hynix is scheduled to announce its business results for the first quarter of 2026 on the 23rd.
Meanwhile, SK hynix is recruiting production-line employees through the 22nd as part of its efforts to meet growing semiconductor demand driven by the spread of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
