[The Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung has ordered that construction proceed swiftly so he can use the Sejong presidential office within his term.
Kyuyoun Lee conveyed this at a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center on the 14th.
He stated, "I would like to talk about a key piece of infrastructure for completing Sejong Special Self-Governing City as the administrative capital. On the 15th, we will issue a tender notice for site preparation work to build the president's Sejong office," adding, "The site covers 350,000 square meters, the project budget is 9.8 billion won, and the construction period is 14 months."
He went on, "This site preparation work carries symbolic and significant meaning for balanced national development. It is the first action, the first project, and the first groundbreaking that puts into practice on the ground our promise to the people to complete the administrative capital, rather than leaving it as a plan on paper or a political slogan," and added, "At the same time, the government is also holding a design competition for the president's Sejong office. We plan to select the winning design at the end of this month, and after the design process, we will begin construction in August next year."
Kyuyoun Lee stressed, "President Lee has repeatedly expressed his intention to hold his retirement ceremony in Sejong and has ordered that construction proceed quickly so he can use the Sejong office within his term," and continued, "In line with the agreement with the public, we will do our utmost to ensure that the president can move into the Sejong office by August 2029. Through this, we will complete the administrative capital and open a true era of balanced national development."
