[The Financial News] A fire broke out at a cold storage warehouse in Wando County, South Jeolla Province, leaving two firefighters who were working to extinguish the blaze trapped inside.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), an unexplained fire started around 8:25 a.m. at a cold storage warehouse in Wando County, South Jeolla Province. Two firefighters who were entering the site to fight the fire became trapped in the warehouse, and one of them was later found dead. Fire authorities issued Level 1 response and are continuing to search for the remaining firefighter.
Following the accident, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung issued an emergency directive to the National Fire Agency (NFA), the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), South Jeolla Province, Wando County and other relevant agencies. He ordered them to mobilize all available personnel and equipment to focus on rescuing the missing firefighter and extinguishing the fire, while doing everything possible to prevent any additional safety accidents among firefighters during the operation.
