According to The Financial News, the hospital run by psychiatrist and television personality Yang Jae-woong has ultimately closed after serving a business suspension over a fatal patient accident.
On the 12th, the Bucheon Public Health Center stated that the hospital operated by Yang filed its closure report on the 1st. At the time of the filing, there were no inpatients, so no transfer measures or prior notification procedures were carried out.
The hospital opened in Bucheon in July 2010. It specialized in psychiatry and alcohol addiction treatment and was equipped with 169 beds.
In 2024, however, a woman in her 30s, identified as Patient A, who had been hospitalized there for treatment of diet pill addiction, died during treatment from acute pseudo-obstruction of the intestine. During the investigation, it was found that the medical staff in charge had forcibly administered medication and failed to properly monitor her condition.
Five people, including the attending physician and nurses, have been indicted on charges including occupational negligent homicide. Police also referred seven others, including Yang, to the prosecution, but prosecutors requested supplementary investigation from the police last month.
The hospital was found to have engaged in unlicensed medical practices in violation of the Medical Service Act and was ordered to suspend operations for three months. It did not file an objection and halted business from January through March.
Following the incident, Yang suspended all broadcasting activities. He had been planning to marry Hani, a member of EXID, but their wedding has been postponed indefinitely.
