The Ministry of Transport of Qatar stated on the 11th local time that it will fully normalize navigation for all types of vessels in the Persian Gulf from the 12th.
According to Cable News Network (CNN), the Ministry of Transport of Qatar said in a statement that day that it will authorize navigation for all types of vessels from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. It added that, as previously announced, vessels with fishing permits will also be allowed to sail.
However, the ministry stressed that vessels setting out to sea must follow instructions, be equipped with all required safety and security equipment, and remain fully operational before and during navigation. It emphasized that this is necessary to maintain the highest level of safety while at sea.
On the Iranian side, which controls the Strait of Hormuz, no official statement has yet been issued. It is also not known whether Iran has entered into any form of coordination with Qatar.
Even so, the declaration of normalized navigation appears unlikely to have been made without some understanding with Iran. This suggests that at least in the waters near Qatar, a practical safety guarantee has been reached that allows vessels to resume sailing.
Analysts say the conditional opening from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. is intended to ensure sufficient visibility.
The statement from the Ministry of Transport of Qatar came as the United States of America (US) and Iran began cease-fire talks in Islamabad, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
