According to Financial News, the film "The King’s Warden" has climbed to second place in the all-time box office rankings.
According to investor-distributor Showbox, the film drew a cumulative total of 16,283,970 viewers as of the 11th, its 67th day in theaters.
With this, it has surpassed the final audience tally of the 2019 release "Extreme Job," which recorded 16.26 million viewers.
"The King’s Warden" is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of a village head who voluntarily chooses exile to revive his village, and a young former king who has been deposed and banished from the throne.
The film’s poignant portrayal of King Danjong of Joseon and the strong performances by the cast have left a deep impression on audiences, fueling repeat viewings well into its 10th week of release.
Meanwhile, the all-time box office leader remains "The Admiral: Roaring Currents," which depicts Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s Battle of Myeongnyang during the Imjin War and drew 17.61 million viewers.
