[The Financial News] A story has emerged of a daughter-in-law who does not want to leave her child with a mother-in-law who constantly makes negative remarks.
According to News1 on the 10th, a user identified as A wrote on an online community the previous day, saying, "I am currently raising a baby who just turned one, and my mother-in-law insists on taking care of the baby once a week."
A said, "I personally really dislike my mother-in-law," adding, "She is always down, and whenever she opens her mouth, it is only to say negative things, so just facing her is exhausting."
She went on, "My mother-in-law says she is so happy when she is with her grandchild," and "She not only doesn’t expect to be paid, she even offered to give me spending money."
A continued, "At first, I left the baby with her thinking, 'If it works out for everyone, why not?'" She added, "Thanks to that, I got some time to rest and even received some allowance, which was nice, but as a year went by, the sense of rejection inside me only grew stronger."
She said, "I went through all kinds of pain to give birth to this child, but my mother-in-law, without going through any of that, seems to be trying to fill her own emotional void through my child, so I even feel as if my child is being 'taken away' from me." She added, "The person who always wore me down with her negative energy but suddenly looks happy only in front of my child honestly feels disgusting to me."
A explained, "It’s not that I left my child with her because childcare was too hard, nor because I was desperate for money," and said, "In the end, once my child started going to daycare, I stopped leaving the child with my husband’s family."
In response, the mother-in-law pleaded with A to at least let her see the grandchild on weekday evenings or weekends, even if it was just once a month, but A said she refused.
Then the mother-in-law sent A a large sum of money as an allowance and begged, saying, "I’m sorry I haven’t done better for you until now. Please, just let me see my grandchild."
A confessed, "I feel so heavy-hearted. When she is this desperate, I start to wonder if I am being too cold, but at the same time, my instinctive aversion to having her face my child makes this very hard," adding, "I don’t know if I should return the money and firmly stick to my decision, or if I should reluctantly resume the relationship."
After reading the story, online commenters wrote reactions such as, "To put it bluntly, you are being really cruel. Why block a grandmother who is even offering money just to see her grandchild?", "You’re too heartless. How is this even something you’re posting as a dilemma?", "What on earth is your husband doing?", "Cutting off the relationship between grandmother and grandchild just because you don’t like her is selfish," and "Don’t you already know what the right answer is?"
