President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea on the 10th shared on X (formerly Twitter) a video alleging that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tortured and abandoned a Palestinian child. He wrote, "There is no difference between the forced mobilization of comfort women that we condemn, the Holocaust, or killings committed during wartime."
Lee added, "We need to find out whether this is true and, if it is, what measures were taken." The creator of the video post he shared is known to be a content creator from Palestine.
Later, Lee posted an additional message, saying, "International Humanitarian Law (IHL) must be observed under any circumstances, and human dignity must be upheld as a non-negotiable, top priority value." He continued, "The footage shows a real incident that occurred in September 2024, which the White House in the United States described as 'deeply disturbing.' U.S. officials, including John F. Kirby, even called it a disgusting and unacceptable act. Israel is said to have carried out related investigations and taken measures in response."
Lee went on, "If there is any small relief, it is that the victim was a corpse and not a living person. But even for a dead body, such treatment is a violation of international law." He added, "The many tragedies that have occurred throughout history have taught us that the value of human rights is above all else and is the best value we can uphold."
He continued, "We must not allow the painful lessons left by those deep wounds to be repeated as yet another cycle of horror." He stressed, "Only then can humanity move toward a future of reconciliation and cooperation where everyone coexists. Wherever and for whatever reason, human rights are the last line of defense and a value that cannot be traded for anything."
