Kia Corporation plans to invest a record 49 trillion won by 2030 as it moves to secure a leading position in the future mobility market. The company intends to build a full lineup of eco-friendly vehicles by continuously expanding its electric and hybrid vehicle ranges, while also pushing into future technologies such as autonomous driving and robotics. Kia President Hosung Song outlined this mid- to long-term business strategy, centered on these plans, at the "2026 Kia CEO Investor Day" held at The Shilla Hotel in Jung District, Seoul, on the 9th, according to Kia.
Kia Corporation will invest a total of 49 trillion won over the next five years through 2030. This is 7 trillion won more than the previous five-year plan for 2025–2029, which stood at 42 trillion won, and marks the largest five-year investment plan in the company’s history.
At the 2026 Kia CEO Investor Day held on the 9th at The Shilla Hotel in Jung District, Seoul, Kia President Hosung Song unveiled the company’s mid- to long-term business strategy. This year’s investment alone will rise by 1.2 trillion won from a year earlier to 10.1 trillion won, underscoring a clear expansionary stance. Of the total 49 trillion won, 21 trillion won will be funneled into future businesses such as electrification, autonomous driving, and robotics. This means 43% of total investment is being allocated to future growth engines, an 11% increase from the previous plan of 19 trillion won.
In autonomous driving, Kia Corporation plans to accelerate its timetable through collaboration with Nvidia Corporation. The company aims to complete development of its so-called software-defined vehicle (SDV), often referred to as a "smart car," by late 2027 and to commercialize urban autonomous driving at Level 2++ from early 2029. In robotics, Kia will sequentially deploy Boston Dynamics’ Atlas at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in 2028 and at the Kia Georgia Plant in 2029 to speed up manufacturing innovation.
