[Financial News] On the 9th, the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) criticized the People Power Party (PPP) for calling the Lee Jae-myung administration’s North Korea policy "submissive," and urged the PPP to "stop stoking security fears."
At the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea that day, DPK floor leader Han Byung-do lashed out, saying, "Does the People Power Party (PPP) still fantasize that red-baiting and McCarthy-style fearmongering over national security will work?"
Earlier, the People Power Party (PPP) strongly condemned President Lee for expressing regret over an intrusion incident involving an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The PPP also argued that there had been no response of appropriate intensity to the DPRK’s ballistic missile launches.
On the same day, at a supreme council meeting, PPP leader Jang Dong-hyeok also said, "We went so far as to apologize over the UAV incursion, yet there is not a single word of comment on the far more serious provocation of missile launches," adding, "No matter how much we concede and yield, the DPRK will continue to treat us as its most hostile state. Immediately put an end to this submissive North Korea policy."
Floor leader Han described President Lee’s expression of regret as "a decision befitting the chief executive responsible for steering peace on the Korean Peninsula." Responding to the PPP’s criticism, he countered, "Does the People Power Party (PPP), which has heightened inter-Korean tensions over the past three years, have any right to criticize?"
