[Financial News] BTS (Bangtan Boys) is kicking off its world tour today.
According to Big Hit Music on the 9th, BTS will hold the "BTS World Tour 'Arirang'" today (9th) at the main stadium of Goyang Stadium in Gyeonggi Province. The tour will feature a 360-degree stage, allowing fans to experience the performances of all seven members more vividly, and will run through the 12th.
All 46 shows, including stops in Goyang, Tokyo, North America and Europe, are already sold out, and about 2.4 million fans in North America and Europe alone are waiting to see them. Over the course of this tour, BTS will perform a total of 85 shows. After additional dates were added for the South America leg, the group is now set to meet fans around the world with 85 concerts in 34 cities, including one extra show each in Lima, Santiago and Buenos Aires.
Over the past two weeks, BTS has been captivating global audiences with its unrivaled performance skills. On August 27, they began by releasing a dance practice video for the title track "SWIM," followed by the music video and dance practice video for the B-side "2.0," and then the music video for "Hooligan."
The performance videos for "SWIM" and "2.0" surpassed 6 million and 4 million views on YouTube, respectively, within a day of release. The music video for "Hooligan" easily exceeded 8 million views even before 24 hours had passed.
Meanwhile, the securities industry expects BTS to generate about 2 trillion to 2.7 trillion won in sales from the "Arirang" world tour. The estimate assumes a cumulative audience of 6 million, an average ticket price of 300,000 won, and per-capita merchandise spending of 140,000 won.
On August 17, Kim Yu-hyeok, an analyst at IBK Securities, projected, "BTS is expected to generate 2.9 trillion won in revenue and 530.6 billion won in operating profit by next year," adding, "For this year, it should be possible to reflect 2.3 trillion won in revenue and 421.4 billion won in operating profit." In particular, the "Arirang" world tour will not be limited to offline concerts but will expand through online streaming and live cinema screenings. Kim explained, "Assuming three shows in Seoul, an average ticket price of 59,000 won and an audience of 1 million to 2 million, additional profit of about 32 billion to 64 billion won can be expected."
