[Financial News] As the United States of America (U.S.) and the Islamic Republic of Iran agreed to a two-week cease-fire, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed the deal was a 100% victory for the U.S. In response, Iran also asserted that it had prevailed in its war against the U.S. and Israel.
In a phone interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP) on the 7th (local time), President Trump described the cease-fire agreement as a "total and complete victory" for the U.S. and said, "It is 100%. There is no question about it."
Asked whether China had been involved in bringing Iran to the negotiating table, Trump replied, "That's what I heard." On the issue of Iran's uranium enrichment, he stated, "It will be completely resolved, and if that were not the case, I would not have agreed to the deal."
Earlier the same day, Trump announced on Truth Social that he had agreed to halt attacks on Iran for two weeks, on the condition that Iran fully and immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The post came about an hour and a half before the negotiation deadline.
Trump said, "We received a 10-point proposal from Iran. I believe this provides a real basis for negotiations," adding, "The United States and Iran have already reached agreement on most of the various issues from the past, and the two-week period will allow us to finalize and sign those agreements."
Iran also confirmed that the two countries had agreed to a two-week cease-fire. In a statement, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSC) declared, "Iran has won the war against the United States and Israel, and the U.S. has accepted all 10 points of the peace plan proposed by Iran." Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting likewise reported that Trump had accepted Iran's terms for ending the war, projecting an air of victory.
Under the agreement, the U.S. has halted airstrikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Iran's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered all units to cease fire. The two sides are scheduled to begin full-fledged talks on the detailed terms on the 10th in Islamabad, Pakistan.
