Kim appeared at the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) in Mapo District, Seoul, that day. It was his first appearance in six days since the 2nd, and his sixth summons in total.
Arriving at the building at around 8:56 a.m., Kim remarked, "The police are calling me in far too often, but in any case I will faithfully explain myself." When reporters asked whether he was willing to waive his parliamentary immunity from arrest, he replied, "There’s no way they would even apply for an arrest warrant," and then entered the building.
Kim is under investigation over 13 allegations in total, including taking bribes in exchange for nominating a Dongjak District Council member, his spouse Lee’s alleged misuse of a corporate credit card, and suspicions that he sought job favors and a preferential transfer to Soongsil University for his second son.
Other allegations include: condoning a 100 million won nomination bribe involving lawmaker Kang Sun-woo; accepting hotel accommodation vouchers from an airline and demanding protocol services; pressuring staff for personnel disadvantages and expensive meals before one aide moved to Coupang; and unlawfully obtaining aides’ Telegram chat messages.
Police are reportedly considering forwarding some of the charges to prosecutors first, after making an initial assessment, and then sending the rest sequentially. However, whether the case will actually be forwarded is expected to be decided only after all questioning is complete.
Based on the results of the questioning on the 8th, police plan to review whether to summon Kim again and how to handle his custody status.
