[Financial News] Cho Ji-yeon of the People Power Party (PPP) on the 7th criticized the government’s proposed supplementary budget, saying, "Rather than thinking the funds are being used well, I get the sense they are being spent recklessly."
Cho made these remarks during a comprehensive policy inquiry at the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea earlier that day.
She pointed in particular to the roughly 60 billion won allocated to expand the National Tax Delinquency Management Unit of the National Tax Service (NTS), about 150 billion won for the new Non-Tax Revenue Arrears Management Unit, an additional 60 billion won for a special farmland survey, and increased funding to support the arts and culture sector. She also criticized the fact that, under the lead of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee of the National Assembly of South Korea added extra funding to support the operation of Traffic Broadcasting System (TBS).
She went on to say, "I fully acknowledge the need for a supplementary budget," but stressed, "A supplementary budget created in response to the fallout from the Middle East war must be invested intensively and swiftly in places that are struggling and have suffered concentrated damage."
Cho added, "The People Power Party (PPP) has made clear its position that fuel subsidies for livelihood freight vehicle operators, such as truck, taxi, and delivery drivers, must be significantly increased," and called for a redesign of the plan so that "support can be focused more heavily on these people."
