With investor interest in space and aerospace surging after Artemis II, the first US crewed lunar mission in 54 years, Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) is planning an initial public offering in June that will draw participation from more than 10 countries including the US.
According to the financial investment industry on the 8th, the lead underwriters for the SpaceX initial public offering are Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. At the same time, investor bookbuilding is expected to take place in countries including the United States of America (US), the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Commonwealth of Australia, Federative Republic of Brazil and Canada.
In South Korea, Mirae Asset Financial Group is considering allocating a portion of any SpaceX IPO shares it secures to domestic investors. An industry official said, "Once Mirae Asset Financial Group's stake in the SpaceX offering is finalized, my understanding is that they are reviewing ways to allow Korean investors to participate as well."
This SpaceX IPO is drawing even more attention after Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk indicated that as much as 30% or more of the shares could be allocated to individual investors.
After listing, SpaceX is expected to reach a market capitalization of about $1.75 trillion (around 2,625 trillion won), which would place it sixth among publicly traded companies worldwide. Major foreign media outlets have described SpaceX as "a blue-chip company with unique and unrivaled technological capabilities" and reported that "in the long term, it has a strong chance of overtaking Nvidia Corporation to become the world's most valuable company by market capitalization."
Meanwhile, Park Hyeon-Joo, chairman of Mirae Asset Financial Group, is focusing on global business and investments, including SpaceX, in his role as the group’s global strategist. Mirae Asset Financial Group has invested about 1 trillion won in SpaceX, of which roughly 100 billion won comes from Korean investor funds.
