[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae (the Blue House) commented on North Korea's positive response to President Lee Jae-myung's expression of regret over the recent "civilian drone intrusion" into the North on the 6th, saying, "We hope this swift confirmation of each other's intentions between the South and the North will contribute to peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula."
A Cheong Wa Dae official, referring to the statement issued by Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, assessed the situation this way and added, "The government will continue its efforts toward peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula."
Earlier on the 6th, President Lee Jae-myung, speaking about the incident in which a civilian drone crossed into North Korea, said, "An incident involving a civilian drone, which should never have happened under this administration, has occurred." He continued, "Although it was not the intention of our government, we express our regret to the North that unnecessary military tensions were triggered by the irresponsible and reckless actions of some individuals." He stressed, "At a time like this, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula are more important than anything else."
In response, Kim Yo Jong said the same evening through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), "Our government assesses it as very fortunate and a wise step taken in its own interest that the president himself expressed regret and mentioned measures to prevent a recurrence," adding, "Our head of state evaluated this as showing the attitude of a candid and bold person."
