According to The Financial News, a series of videos capturing cases of safety negligence—such as a cyclist riding along the center of an eight-lane road and a person using an electric scooter on an expressway—have recently been made public, fueling public outcry.
On the 6th, the JTBC program Incident Chief reported on footage filmed on a road in Dong District, Daejeon.
The video shows a woman, believed to be in her 20s and wearing a floral dress, riding a bicycle at speed down the middle of a bidirectional eight-lane road.
As she weaved between vehicles, nearby drivers were forced to slow down, and this in turn is believed to have caused traffic congestion in the surrounding area.
Another tip-off video shows a man riding an electric scooter at night on the Capital Region First Ring Expressway.
In the footage, the helmeted man is seen standing on a lit electric scooter, continuing to ride along the edge of the roadway.
At one point, he even occupies an entire lane as he travels. He was later seen exiting toward the city via an interchange (IC) on the expressway.
Under the current Road Traffic Act, electric scooters are prohibited from using expressways. Violators can face a fine of up to 300,000 won or detention.
